Fall Cocktail Inspirations

Friday, September 26th, 2014

fall cocktail recipesFootball is in full swing, the leaves are starting to change colors, and there is certainly a chill permeating the Towson air. Know what that means? It’s time to start thinking about some great fall cocktails for entertaining! Whether you’re having a Halloween party or a get together with friends and family, it’s always a good idea to have a seasonal drink recipe on hand. The great part about fall recipes is that most people love fall flavors. Everything apple, pumpkin, and cinnamon is great to use as a base this time of year. Ready to get your fall party on? Try out some of these recipes!

Fall Inspired Recipes

Hard Cider Sangria – Hard cider has become a staple of fall drinks in the past year or so. Even people who don’t like beer are starting to gravitate to hard cider. It’s a little bit sweeter than beer and leaves you with a crisp apple flavor.
What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup of quartered, thinly sliced apples (green, yellow, red, or any combination thereof).
  • 1 orange, quartered and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup apple brandy
  • 22 oz hard cider

Combine it all together, pour over ice, and enjoy!

Caramel Appletini – Uhm, yum. Nothing says fall like a great caramel apple. Try the grownup version with this great caramel appletini recipe!
What you’ll need

  • 1 oz caramel Irish cream
  • ½ oz green apple vodka
  • 1 slice apple
  • 1 tsp caramel

Shake caramel Irish cream with green apple vodka and ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with apple slice and caramel. You can either drizzle the caramel in the bottom of the glass or on top of the drink.

Cinnamon Toast – You may have already had a “cinnamon toast crunch” shot (Fireball and Rumchata), but this one is a little bit different. If you need a warm drink on a cool night, this one will spice it up perfectly.
What you’ll need:

  • 1 ¼ oz spiced rum
  • 6 oz hot apple cider
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Rim your glass with cinnamon and sugar first (using the spiced rum to make it stick). Mix spiced rum and hot apple cider together in the glass! It’s a quick and tasty way to warm up!

The Baltimore Orioles Make History

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

CVP SpecialsCan you feel the excitement in the air in Baltimore? After a great 26-6 football win over the Steelers last week for the Ravens, the Baltimore Orioles refused to be outshined. For the first time in 17 years, the Orioles have clinched the American League Eastern Division. Having only lost one of their last 10 games, the Orioles are on a roll. Baltimore fans across the city were extremely excited to see how well the baseball team is doing (we’re not diehard fans around here or anything). Need a place to catch the next few games and watch the playoffs that the Orioles WILL DEFINITELY BE AT?!

Baseball Specials at CVP Towson

If you haven’t joined us for an Os game yet, you’ve been missing out. There’s only one way to celebrate clinching the division, and that’s with good food, good friends, and even better beer. Come in during the Os games for:

  • $2.00 Miller Lite & Coors Light bottles
  • $4.00 Bacardi “O” Drinks
  • $4.00 Os Bomb
  • $9.00 Bucket of 5 beers (Miller Lite or Coors Light)

If the game happens to fall during happy hour, you can also indulge in some of our best five dollar food menu, because what pairs better with beer and sports than appetizers? Some of our favorite shareables (or non-shareables, we don’t judge) include the following:

  • Nachos mini mountain – mostly just because it tastes as awesome as it sounds
  • Your choice of 5 wings (hot, mild, Cajun, honey sriracha, bbq, old bay, jerk, or sweet chili)
  • Bacon cheddar cheese fries
  • Southwest chicken egg rolls

We’ve got plenty of other 5 dollar snacks that you can check out here. Happy hour is from 3 PM – 7 PM Monday through Thursday and Friday from 3 PM – 9 PM.

Regular season for the Orioles ends on September 28th and playoffs begin Thursday, October 2nd. Come in between now and then on any game day to indulge in the game day specials and watch the game with your favorite Towson servers and bartenders!

Boh’s and O’s: A Short History of the Orioles

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014

There’s nothing like an Orioles game and a Bohtini to make an ordinary summer a Baltimore summer. You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying “We bleed purple in the winter and orange in the summer.” It couldn’t be more true. You already know that we bleed orange at CVP Towson and we’re excited that the O’s are currently first in the American League, with a 3 game lead on the Blue Jays (plus, anytime we’re beating the Yankees is reason for celebration). In honor of the O’s current standings, we thought we’d bring you a brief history of the team!

How the Orioles became the Orioles

The Orioles started out about 1,200 miles west of Baltimore in St. Louis, Missouri. After a pretty miserable 54-100 season, the owners agreed to move the St. Louis Browns (the name change came later) to Baltimore in the fall of 1953. Even though they didn’t do a lot better directly after the move, Baltimore natives embraced them almost at once, drawing over a million people to the home games during their first season in the city.orioles history

The Orioles started to show their value in the 60s as they steadily improved their game and acquired great players such as Frank Robinson, Jim Gentile, Ron Hansen, Steve Barber, and Jim Palmer. They won their first World Series title in 1966, beating out the LA Dodgers 13-2 in a four game sweep. It was impressive for a team that hadn’t had a whole lot of success up until then. They continued working hard through the 60s and became the team to beat.

The 1970s boded well for them, too. They clinched another World Series win and fought their way to the top with a lot of skill and a little bit of “Orioles Magic.” Earl Weaver was voted Manager of the Year in 1973 and the team enjoyed having great players such as Al Brumby, Brooks Robinson, and Mike Flanagan. Cal Ripken Jr. joined the team in 1982 and changed the face of Orioles history as one of the best players to ever step on the field. They took the title again in 1983 because of him and a few other choice players. Though there were some snags to overcome in the 80s, they came back strong in the 90s, beginning 1992 in the brand new Camden Yards stadium and continued to break records. The 2000s were a little rough for a while, but we’re starting to see some Orioles Magic again and we couldn’t be more excited!

Enjoy Orioles’ Specials at CVP Towson

We’ve got food and drink specials during Orioles games, so come on out and bleed orange with us. We can always use more people in the cheering section and we look forward to seeing you there! Our Maryland Blue Crab

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

blue crab dishes at CVPThere are a lot of traditions when it comes to living in Baltimore. Residents of Baltimore take pride in their heritage and traditions and there’s no doubt everyone will enjoy a summer tradition in the upcoming months; eating steamed crabs. The people of Baltimore love to feast on the state’s official crustacean, but how much do we really know about the Maryland Blue Crab?

The Maryland Blue Crab, scientific name as Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, was discovered in 1896 by scientist Mary Jane Rathbun. It was declared the official State Crustacean in 1989. Coincidentally, its scientific name translates to “beautiful swimmer that is savory”, which many residents can vouch that it is, indeed, savory. The average life span of a Maryland Blue Crab as of October 2000 is about 2 to 3 years. Blue crabs are believed to have a life span of about 8 years, but harvesting and the conditions of the Chesapeake Bay prevent them from living that long. Blue crab harvesting takes place at different times of the day during different months of the year. For full crabbing regulations, click here.

In Crisfield, Somerset County, there is a National Hard Crab Derby and Fair that takes place every Labor Day weekend. The fair includes a crab feast, cooking contests, and a crab picking contest. Out of town guests who enter through Baltimore-Washington International Airport can see the state’s pride by the stained-glass blue crab on display on the upper level.

When you visit Charles Village Pub & Patio, you can expect the pride of the Maryland Blue Crab to live in our menu. We incorporate this state tradition with items like:

  1. Bay Burger- One of our delicious burgers topped with imperial sauce, cheddar cheese, and a mini jumbo lump crab cake.
  2. Chicken Chesapeake- Stacked on top of a brioche roll you will find grilled chicken, crab cake, imperial sauce, lettuce, and tomato.
  3. The Waterman Club- A classic club styled sandwich with shrimp salad and a jumbo lump crab cake.

To enjoy a part of Maryland’s history, stop in today to enjoy one of our crab favorites! Conveniently located in the heart of Towson, CVP is open daily with hours from 11am to 2am; our kitchen is constantly pumping out delicious crab entrees to suit every Baltimore residents’ crab cravings.
