Summer Shot Recipes

summer shot recipesIf you’re like most, you prefer to spend your summer laying by the pool with friends, soaking up some summer sun, and knocking back a drink or too. Summer drinks are some of the most fun because there are so many different options for them – frozen, cold, on the rocks, SHOTS – the drink selection is endless. Summer shots are fun to make and even more fun to take. We’ve compiled a list of some great classic shots as well as a few innovative ones that we think you’ll really like to take to every pool party you go to this summer!

Classic Summer Shots

  • Lemon drop – This recipe is about as classic as it gets for summer parties and nights out. It’s pretty simple, too!
    -1 part vodka
    -1 part lemon juice
-1 sugar cube / loose sugar
-Make a sugar rim on the outside of the shot glass. Pour vodka and lemon juice into a shaker over ice. Shake well, place sugar cube or loose sugar in the bottom of the shot glass, pour in liquid, and throw it back!
  • Washington Apple – If you like to go out to drink, you’ve almost definitely come across a Washington Apple once or twice. It goes down smooth and tastes delicious.
    -1 part cranberry juice
    -1 part Canadian whiskey
    -1 part sour apple pucker
    -splash lemon lime soda
-Pour all ingredients (except lemon lime soda) into shaker over ice. Shake well, pour in shot glass, add splash of soda.
  • Fourth of July – This is generally made as a shooter and is a little bit more involved, since it requires layering.
    -1 part grenadine
    -1 part peach schnapps
    -1 part blue curacao
-Pour grenadine on bottom of shot glass. Using a spoon, layer peach schnapps on top of the grenadine, and blue curacao on top of that.

Less Traditional

  • Barbie shot – This is great for those who love fruity drinks and shots.
    -1 part vodka
    -1 part cranberry juice
    -1 part coconut rum
    -1 part orange juice
    -Shake over ice, pour, enjoy.
  • Penalty shot – If you’re in the spirit of The World Cup, this one’s for you.
    -1 part blue curacao
    -1 part melon liqueur
    -1 part triple sec
-Simple enough, once again. Pour over ice in a shaker and serve.
